OCTOPLUG OCEAN SHADER (I)

OCTOPLUG OCEAN SHADER (I)

One of the technologies that I plan to review is an external plug-in for Maya called Octoplug's Ocean Shader.

Download

It is from a commercial site, but at the time I wrote this, I could download for free, because of being the first plugin that I downloaded from the site, after registering.

Can be found here:

Install plug-in

After downloading and unzipping the plug-in to your hard drive, you have to add it to the Maya plug-ins. You do so by modifiying the <<Maya.env>> file and add reference to it.
You must also activate it in the Maya Plug-in Manager window as it doesn't do it by default.
After installed I had a hard time trying to find out if I had installed it properly. I figured out how to test it in the end from the Node Editor. Simply go into the Node editor, press the <<Tab>> key and search for the "ooOcean" element, that will show up. It was confusing because by simply right-click and select the <<Add Node>> option it would not appear. I suspect that on that context menu it doesn't show the plug-in elements.
